As we said earlier, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today launched the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered Innova, the first energy efficient multipurpose vehicle in the country, which is available in all petrol grades of the Innova.
Toyota Innova rolls out with CNG as well as an alternate fuel. Toyota Innova is in high grades since its launch in 2005, will now provide customers a more economical and environmental friendly driving option.
Toyota Innova comes with a 1988cc, 16-V DOHC VVTi petrol engine which is compatible with CNG. The MPV rolls out with a manual selecter switch that enables the driver to easily switch from gasoline to CNG and vice versa. The on-board cylinder has a capacity of approximately 12Kg of CNG and the running cost of CNG for the Innova is estimated to be around Rs. 1.6/Km or even less depending on the driving cycle.
Coming to the mileage point of view, increase engine oil life and reduced maintenance cost, the CNG Innova offers about 50% saving over diesel in running costs. The CNG Innova will be priced at around Rs 85000 higher than the current petrol version.

With CNG having established itself as an eco-friendly, reliable and economic fuel, TKM is pleased to announce India’s first ever energy efficient MPV in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has alliance with the leading CNG kit supplier M/s Minda Auto Gas Ltd to supply the CNG kits. The Kits installed not only safe and its advanced Lambda control system ensures that it meets the Euro III emission norms and to ensure that there are no flaws in the fitment process. Toyota Kirloskar Motor has a special arrangement with M/s Minda Auto Gas Ltd to retro fit the kits on the Innova.
“CNG can reduce carbon-monoxide emissions by over 90 percent and offers better utilization of natural energy resources. In the first phase of launch, the CNG Innova has been introduced in Delhi, Mumbai, Surat, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. The CNG Innova will also soon be launched in Baroda and Vijayawada. All Toyota dealers in the above 7 cities are equipped to sell and service the CNG Innova.
Toyota Innova has tremendous sales figures since its launch in 2005 to be exceeding over 1.62 Lakh vehicles so far. Toyota has been ruling the segment for a long time due to its MPV model as well the Sedan buyers whose needs are spaciousness and performance. The company has achieved a 36% market share in the MPV segment in calendar year 2008. In January this year, TKM launched the updated version of the Innova with advanced and dynamic styling.
