PSA Peugeot Citroen is all set to take on the competition right to the big guns Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. PSA Peugeot Citroen is making its entry late into the Indian car market which has a vast portfolio of car manufacturers from around the world. The company had showcased their vehicles at the 11th Auto Expo 2012 in Delhi. Industry sources confirm that the company is busy developing two Peugeot models for the mass segment in france. Both the cars that are currently being developed are on the M3′ low-cost platform. The company has done its research and is
targeting the entry level sedan and hatchback segment. One of the main competitors would be Maruti’s swift hatcback which has gained huge popularity in the Indian market. PSA Peugeot Citroen has already invested in a plant in India and the company is looking to roll out mass models to make there plant viable. The entry level sedan from to PSA Peugeot Citroen is said to be powered by a turbocharged 1.3-litre engine. It will take on the likes of Fiat Linea and Hyundai Verna’s. PSA Peugeot Citroen is an expert in diesel technology so one can expect a modern refined diesel engine under the entry lever sedan hood. Initially PSA Peugeot Citroen will make its in-roads into India by selling three models, ‘RCZ’ sports coupe, ‘3008′ crossover and ‘508′ premium sedan via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. The company has also announced that it would be shifting its India headquarters from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The company is also looking at the “possibility of a non-OEM partnership” in India. So the path looks pretty clear for PSA Peugeot Citroen. With the development of the production plant in progress, it seems from the production front the company does not need any help. What needs to be looked into is how PSA Peugeot Citroen go about their marketing or investment support in India – Stay Tuned.
